Privacy Policy
Last updated: 25 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how mapd ("mapd", "we", "us") handles information when you use this website. mapd is a pre-launch service that surfaces what people in Dubai are ordering. We aim to collect as little personal data as possible.
Information we collect
- Waitlist details. If you join the waitlist, we collect the email address or social handle you provide and the part of the site you signed up from. This is submitted through our forms provider (Tally) and may also be stored in our database.
- An anonymous device identifier. We generate a random ID and store it in your browser's local storage to rate-limit and de-duplicate actions (like logging an order or a wish). It is not tied to your identity and is not used for cross-site tracking.
- Approximate location (only with your permission). If you allow it via your browser prompt, we use your coordinates to show trends near you. We do not store your precise location.
- Content you submit. Free-text you add — such as a wishlist entry — is stored so we can display and moderate it.
- Basic technical data. Like most websites, our hosting provider may process standard request information (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver and secure the site.
How we use information
- To operate the site and show relevant trends.
- To manage the waitlist and notify you when we launch.
- To prevent abuse, spam, and duplicate submissions.
- To moderate user-submitted content before it appears publicly.
We do not sell your personal information.
Third-party services
We rely on a small number of processors to run the site:
- Vercel — website hosting and delivery.
- Supabase — database and backend services.
- Mapbox — interactive maps (subject to Mapbox's own privacy terms).
- Tally — waitlist form submissions.
Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy. We only share what is necessary for these services to function.
Cookies and local storage
We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. We use your browser's local storage for the anonymous device identifier described above. Third-party features (such as the map and the waitlist popup) may set their own storage as needed to function.
Data retention
We keep waitlist and submitted content for as long as needed to run the service or until you ask us to delete it. The anonymous device identifier stays in your browser until you clear your local storage.
Your choices and rights
You can decline the location prompt, clear your browser storage at any time, or contact us to access or delete the waitlist information tied to you. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal data; contact us to exercise them.
Children
mapd is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. We will revise the "last updated" date above when we do.
